My story begins like that of
any other young adventuresome male wanting to make a mark in
society. After graduating high school, I had always dreamed of
being involved in law enforcement in one form or another. My main
goal was to become a police officer in the town that I grew up in. I
knew that in the late 1970's, police departments were very interested in
applicants that had either prior law enforcement experience or some type
of college. At this point in my life, I did not have the desire to enroll in a full four
year college, so I opted to take a two year course in Police Science and
received an Associates Degree. I knew that having this degree
would make me more marketable, as most applicants back then had neither
prior police experience or a full four year college degree. At
present, most if not all police departments require that you have a minimum of an Associates
Degree to even be considered in the hiring process. After
receiving my degree, I immersed myself in many types of jobs that were
associated in the security or law enforcement environment. My work
experience varied from a guard at a nuclear power plant to that of an investigator at a government installation. Throughout
the years, I continued to apply at many local and out of state police
departments. In the early 1980's, I was fortunate enough to be
hired as a part time police officer by the villages of Silver Lake and
Twin Lakes. Working as a part time police officer for both
departments, eventually allowed me to be hired full time by Twin
Lakes.
I couldn't get enough of police
work and continued to work part time for Silver Lake. I was like a sponge to water, soaking up
everything I could learn. Also during this time, I was attending
the police academy on a part time basis. I knew that graduating
from the academy and receiving my state certification would make me even
more marketable. Those two years and the experiences and confidence that
grew within me, allowed me to market myself even higher. I eventually
graduated from the police academy and was hired by my home town police
department.
On May 15, 1984,
my dream had finally been fulfilled and I became a police officer (Unit
# 253) with the City of Kenosha Police Department.
I was a patrolman with this department for 14 years. If you are

Department, the uniform patch is the entrance to their departments web site.
During my 14 years with the
department, I attended and graduated from several schools.
Each of these schools allowed me to receive state certification
in the following specialty areas:
