The streets are quiet,
yielding to the unknown…
Local, state, federal police
all part of the Thin Blue Line!
Fifty-nine seconds of boredom
then one second of pure terror,
acting on impulse
to save lives of innocent unknowns.
Shoot don't shoot? . . . I had to.
Department scrutiny and review,
sleepless nights and family strife
community conviction... who?
Vehicle cut in half,
bodies once full of life,
“Officer I only had two beers”,
parents notified . . . crying . . . both of us!
It doesn't matter if infant, teen or elderly…
losing one gnaws at you
stomach feels uneasy...
If only I got there sooner!
“Thank you officer.
I'm happy to see you . . .
“Don't leave, stay awhile.”
Words echo through you!
Your last call ends
a statistic you’re not…
Proud to be Homeland Security’s
First Line Of Defense!
